Will CAFE Regulations Affect Car Safety?
There has been a lot of heated controversy and debate about the new CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) regulations. These requirements have been set forth by the government with the goal to reduce overall emissions and pollution. CAFE is applied towards a company’s entire fleet of cars, not specific vehicle models. This means that an automotive company can still have a few gas guzzlers such as SUV’s, huge trucks and V8 cars as long as they offset them with efficient cars, hybrids or electric cars. One concern about the CAFE regulations is that luxury auto makers such as Mercedes and BMW will not be able to meet them.
